With the release of Donda on August 29th, we’ve all been exposed to new sounds and styles that have been crystallised and brought to the forefront of music by Kanye West. Naturally, Donda features some of the biggest producers of our time, such as Mike Dean, Cubeatz, Digital Nas, Ronny J, Wheezy, Boi-1da, and, of course, Kanye West himself. But the roster of musicians and artists who worked on Donda runs deep, featuring a plethora of up and coming producers who could curate the next popular sound and deserve to get their share of recognition. Here are a few that you should know:
Hailing from Long Island, New York, Cashmere Brown has been interested in music since he was a young child. According to the biography on his personal website, Brown indefinitely “borrowed” his mother’s laptop when he was young and used FL Studio to kickstart his music career. Since then, he’s garnered over four million total streams, working with the likes of independent artists, such as Jermaine Elliot, and bigger artists, like A$AP Ferg. On Donda, Cashmere Brown produced track #23, “No Child Left Behind.”
Hector Soundz’s online presence is difficult to track down. According to Twitter, many, including Hector himself, note that he isn’t chasing clout, and instead focuses on mastering his craft. Previously, Hector Soundz has produced for Tyla Yaweh, Jackboy, and has multiple works with Los Angeles based rapper Caskey. On Donda, Hector Soundz produced track #20, “Lord I Need You,” which he worked on alongside Mickey Alexander. The two are close friends, and are the founders of Vivid Recording Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Aswad Asif, who is better known under his monikers AyoAA and OZZY, produced Donda’s track #4 “Off the Grid.” The song is already shaping up to be a hit as it’s one of the most hard-hitting cuts on the album. AyoAA is signed to Fivio Foreign, who is featured on “Off The Grid.” Outside of Donda, AyoAA has produced for Fivio, A$AP Rocky, Lil Tjay, Playboi Carti, Lil Yachty, and more.
