Juneteenth marked the celebration of the emancipation of black people who had been enslaved in the United States, and this year it’s as important as ever to talk about it. With the ongoing protests and the rise of the Black Lives Matter Movement following the unjust murder of George Floyd, it’s of utmost importance for everyone to contribute in any way they can, whether that’s by donating, signing petitions, protesting or even simply bringing up the cause on conversations and social media. For ways you can help, check out our recent article about it or visit this page.
Juneteenth also marked the release of POWER BLACK!, a star-studded compilation album featuring music by black artists who have bonded through SoundCloud. Out exclusively on Bandcamp, all proceeds from the album will be donated to the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), and as producer DEFFIE announced on Instagram, within 24 hours of the release they have raised almost $2000.
